Flashpoint, for those not in the know, is a Canadian drama about the SRU (Strategic Response Unit - sort of like SWAT in the US) in Toronto, Canada. And I've fallen hard for it. It's fast-paced and action-packed but full of teamy goodness and touching moments. The team really is a family and all the members are very protective of one another. Traumatic events aren't simply forgotten from one ep to the next, and they support each other and pull each other through every time.
I love the characters. I absolutely love them. There isn't one character of the core team that I dislike. Though of course I wouldn't be me if I didn't have a favourite character, which is Spike (played by Sergio di Zio). He's sort of the team's funny guy but incredibly smart, competent and loyal and he sometimes has this wide-eyed, vulnerable look about him that I  feel really drawn to. Plus, he's tall, dark, handsome and has the cutest smile ;o) He should definitely get more screen time.
Then there's Greg Parker (Enrico Colantoni), who is 'the Sarge' and practically the team's father. He is so fiercely protective of his team that I liked him instantly. He cares about every single one of them and always wants to do right by them. And let's not forget Ed (played by Hugh Dillon), team leader, and also very protective of his team. You can practically feel the anger come off him in waves whenever one of his team is hurt. And the team is just as protective of them as they are of their team.
Flashpoint also features some kick-ass female characters and incredible writing. The show has moved me to tears more than once, and a lot of the bad guys aren't just bad guys. They're real people often taking drastic action simply because they're desperate and at the end of their rope.
In short, great characters, great writing and lotsa squeeful moments and teamy goodness. I watched all three seasons in just a few days and I haven't actually taken the time to write up thoughts on particular episodes yet, so I may still do that, though they'll probably be in an entirely random order. And these posts may very well completely dissolve into just a lot of flailing and squeeing ;o)
