I love memes! Snurched from [livejournal.com profile] a_pilgrim_soul:

My Year In Fandom

Your main fandom of the year?
That would be Flashpoint, even though the fandom is tiny.

Your favourite film watched this year?
I have to admit that there haven't really been any movies this year that really made me go: WOW! AWESOME! I'd been really looking forward to the last Harry Potter movie, but ended up not liking it as much as I'd hoped, so… I dunno, I guess I'll go with X-Men: First Class and uhm…Kung Fu Panda 2? ;o)

Your favourite book read this year?
I've had so very little time to read books for recreational purposes this year, and I can't even remember which book(s) I did read. I know I read Dying City though, which is technically a play but it's in book form, so I'm counting it as a book. And I loved it. Have a whole lot of books on my to-read list for 2012, like the Vorkosygan series, the Tawny Man trilogy, the Dresden Files books and a lot of books I want to re-read, such as Crusade in Jeans and the Fionavar Tapestry. But I probably won't have time for all that :o(

Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
Depends on the mood I was in. Loved Adele's Someone Like You, Pilot Speed's Bluff and Daniel Cage's Let It Go, but also more upbeat songs like Umbrella by The Baseballs, F*ckin Perfect by Pink and Sean Paul's Got 2 Love U.

Your favourite TV shows of the year?
Well, Flashpoint, obviously ;o) Also enjoyed getting into NCIS: LA a bit more and watching Being Erica, Haven and Suits.

Your favourite LJ community of the year?
There aren't many Flashpoint comms out there and the ones that are there are extremely quiet. Most of the Flashpoint community is on Facebook :o(

Your best new TV discovery of the year?
Haven.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
Hm…I don't think Flashpoint has ever disappointed me in terms of storylines. Although…yeah, I guess I would've liked to have seen a little more of how Spike's been dealing with his father's death. I'd expected at least a reference to it from the other characters in the ep that followed Shockwave since it had been such a huge plotline for Spike, but there was nothing, so that was a bit of a letdown. The last few eps of the season more than made up for that though, and who knows what season 5 will bring :o) Oh, but I guess my biggest fandom disappointment was that there's so very little FP fic out there.

Your TV fictional boyfriend of the year?
Spike Scarlatti from Flashpoint ;o)

Your TV fictional girlfriend of the year?
Oh, that's a tough one… Not Jules, though I used to have the biggest girl crush on Amy Jo Johnson… I dunno, Kensi from NCIS: LA maybe? I just can't get over the fact that Daniela Ruha is actually younger than me when she looks so much older!

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Lots of squee moments this year, but getting to see Sergio Di Zio (Spike in Flashpoint) in his play Dying City and getting to meet him (twice!) was the absolute highlight and it totally made my year :o) Just walking around in the city where Flashpoint is filmed was pretty cool, too. And then there was the moment I discovered there was going to be an FP episode in which Spike gets kidnapped…yeah, I almost died with squee right then and there ;o) Oh! And Shockwave, of course! Spike (emotional) whump galore! ;o)

The most missed of your old fandoms?
Stargate Atlantis. It was such a huge fandom with such awesome and prolific writers and I really miss having at least one new h/c fic to read every day. There's very little good Flashpoint fic out there, so I miss the good old SGA days where I'd be all excited pretty much all the time because there was so much good stuff coming out. I also miss the discussions (not that I took part very often, but I loved reading them) and just generally squeeing about episodes. With Flashpoint I sometimes feel like I'm the only one (well, not the only one, but you know what I mean) watching the show and that gets frustrating sometimes.

The TV show you haven't tried yet, but want to?
I've been wanting to try Rookie Blue and Terra Nova, but haven't gotten around to them yet. Oh, and lots of people have been raving about Breaking Bad, so I'm kinda curious about that, but I think it might be too depressing for me.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
Well, Flashpoint's getting a season 5 (though it's been trimmed down to 13 eps instead of the original 18 eps that were ordered – so bummed about that :o( ) so I'm excited about that, and then there's of course The Hobbit. The first new Sherlock ep was out on Sunday and I loved it, so looking forward to next week's ep. Other than that, I think I'm just really looking forward to getting pics and teases/spoilers about FP season 5 after they start filming in February.

I've read The Tawny Man Trilogy and the Dresden books both very good.

Haven! I forgot about that one in my list, I confess its a show that frustrates me, it doesn't always live up to its potential. I thought season one relied too heavily on the trouble of the week and became quite repetitive only really coming to life with the last few episodes. Season two was better, more arc based and building on the mythology.

I've also thought about giving Breaking Bad a try, I've heard a lot of good things about it but as you say I think its quite dark.

Sorry for the late reply!

I've had the Tawny Man trilogy in my bookcase for about three years now, but still haven't gotten around to reading it. And I kinda worry it'll be as depressing as the Assassin trilogy was, so I guess I keep putting it off, also. Though I do miss Fitz.

I bought #3 of the Dresden Files, Grave Peril, when I was in Londen last year, but haven't gotten around to reading that yet either. :o( I did read the first few pages and though it didn't exactly grab me, it certainly seems far less depressing than Robin Hobb's books.

As for Haven, I have to admit I haven't managed to actually really follow it, because SyFy has it on a very irregular schedule here, which means I keep missing episodes. Do want to catch up on the show completely, but...yeah, TIME. ;o)
