Flashpoint 407 Shockwave
Let me start off by saying that this ep was everything I'd hoped it would be, and more. SO MUCH Spike and TEAM and team members worrying and caring about each other. There was whump and angst and TEAM LOVE and I loved every second of it! :oD
Poor Spike was definitely put through the wringer in this one and I loved how everyone was all, "GO SEE YOUR FATHER NOW!" after he received the phone call that his father was dying. Also, it looks like Raf has totally found his spot on the team and I loved how he was just as willing to stay behind to give Spike a chance to see his father as Sam, who's known Spike a lot longer. Yep, Raf is definitely growing on me. Fast!
What I also really liked about this ep is that the bomber was actually a sympathetic character. He didn't mean to get anyone hurt (though, really, WHAT DID HE THINK WAS GONNA HAPPEN WHEN YOU DETONATE 3 BOMBS?!) and helped out where he could. And he got bonus points for being so gentle with Spike after they defused the bomb.
The whole team was amazing. Ed and Greg especially were terrified when they couldn't get Spike, Raf and Sam to respond after the initial explosions. The fear and concern for their team was practically etched into their faces the entire ep, which, combined with their frantic calls, just really hit all my buttons. And Ed's face at the end, when Spike tells them the bomb's defused - it was such a mixture of disbelief, pride and sheer relief that it almost broke me. Brilliant acting by Hugh Dillon.
And then Spike's "I gotta go" really did break me. Sergio...Sergio was truly incredible throughout the entire ep. Spike's "Help me! Please, please, help me, help me!" really got to me, and so did his literally screaming at Ed to get out of there. It's a side of Spike we've never seen before and I was awed and a teeny bit worried that he was starting to break.
Yet, despite everything, he remained the eternal optimist and truly believed he could defuse the bomb even though everyone else pretty much thought he was going to die. I really think his optimism is his strength. And then the TEAM HUG! EEEEEEEE!!! Loved the entire scene to bits. When Spike came up out of that hole, he looked every bit as exhausted and vulnerable as he probably was right then. More incredible acting by Sergio Di Zio right there.
Man, I think I could go on and on about this ep, but I've been rambling on long enough. Suffice it to say that this is now my new favourite Flashoint ep! ;o)
